FAQ: How Much Does A Home Solar
Panel System Cost? Home
Solar power panel systems are generally priced by the size
of system needed to adequately provide the electric needs of
any given household. The size of the system required is
influenced by many factors including local climate and how a
home is positioned for sun exposure.
But as a rough
example a small to modest sized home with average monthly
energy usage that installs a 2KW solar panel system should
on average cost approximately $20,000 before tax credits,
rebates, etc. A 4 KW system will cost approximately $36,000.
A 5 KW system up to $50,000.
Another quick way to price a solar electric system is to
figure that it will cost approximately $10 to $12 a KW to
install. However, keep in mind the
figures above do not reflect your true expense after federal
and state tax incentives and other rebate programs available
have been applied. The federal tax credit alone for
homeowners is up to 30% of the total cost for a solar
electric system installed.
The bottom line is the residential solar power
incentives being offered today can help dramatically reduce
your costs (anywhere from 50 to 80% for a typical home) and ultimately shorten the time frame your
investment in going solar will pay for itself.
